A power divider is an RF component that divides the incoming signal into two or more outgoing signals with accurate power ratio. Keenlion manufactures customized power dividers – including high- frequency, microstrip, and resistance types – for the most stringest RF applications.
Principles of Power Division
So what exactly is a power divider? Basically a power divider takes in one signal and splits it amongst several different output ports. There’s many variations of a power divider out there that do not split power evenly, although mostly they are designed to do so for the most part. You want a power divider to have the same impedance at all ports (generally 50 Ohms), which will prevent most of the signal from getting reflected back to the source. It doesn’t matter if it is a power divider that gives 2 different output signals or 16 different output signals, you want your power divider to provide clean and predictable splitting of the input power.
Types and Key Parameters of Power Dividers
Power dividers are available in many forms - two-way, three-way, four-way, up to sixteen-way, so on. They can also be classified based on whether they are high frequency, microstrip or resistive type. Among other important parameters are insertion loss (how much signal is lost due to the power divider), isolation (how well the output ports are separated from each other), VSWR (impedance matching of each port) and amplitude/phase balance (for multi-output power dividers). Keenlion offers power divider customization with options for special frequency range, special power handling, and special types of connectors.
Choosing the Right Power Divider
The selection of a power divider will be contingent upon your designated frequency range of operation, the magnitude of power that is to be distributed, and the limitations imposed by the amount of space available to you. The millimeter-wave (MMW) and 5G bands will necessitate the use of high-frequency power dividers. The use of microstrip power dividers is encouraged in areas with a large concentration of PCBs, due to the extremely compact nature of these types of power dividers. Resistance power dividers will provide frequency independent performance, thus lending themselves to use in broadband systems. Keenlion has the ability to tailor all of the power dividers they produce to your specific needs through the custom selection of each power divider's coupling factor and type of connectors.
Si Chuan Keenlion Microwave a large selection in narrowband and broadband configurations, covering frequencies from 0.5 to 50 GHz. They are designed to handle from 10 to 30 watts input power in a 50-ohm transmission system. Microstrip or stripline designs are utilized, and optimized for best performance.
